Consumers of rice have been assured that the price of the staple would soon fall in Nigerian markets owing to the bumper harvest recorded by farmers this farming season.

Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman, Presidential Taskforce on Rice and Wheat Production in the country, made this known on Monday during an interaction with rice farmers in Argungu Local Government Area of the state.
Bagudu says the bumper harvest the rice farmers have recorded this rainy season will bring down the price of locally produced rice to curtail smuggling of foreign rice into the country and make it affordable to the common man.
In order to improve the quality of rice packaged in the market and boost productivity, Bagudu assured the farmers of the state government’s readiness to procure and distribute mini rice milling machines to them.
Mr Bagudu, who is the Chairman Presidential Taskforce on Rice and Wheat Production in the country, made the statement on Monday in Argungu Local Government Area of the state in an interaction with rice farmers in the area.4

“Already youths have been trained on the operation of the machines who will impart such skill to rice farmers in the 21 local government areas of the state,”Bagudu said.
Commenting, a farmer,Abubakar Usman, confirmed that farmers had recorded a bumper harvest this year, calling on the Kebbi State government to lend support in the areas of fertiliser,pesticides, rice milling machines, et al supplies .
