In an effort to boost exports of fruits and vegetables in Nigeria, the Agricultural Quarantine Service in Nigeria (NAQS) said that it is working with the Europe-Africa-Caribbean-Pacific Liaison Committee (COLEACP) to resolve the export embargo on Nigeria's agricultural production in Europe .
Director of NAQS, Dr. Vincent Isseghbe, spoke about this in Abuja at the seminar: "The role of the public and private sectors in sanitary and phytosanitary systems for the subsector of fruits and vegetables".
Isseghbe said that since the European Union (EU) in 2015 banned Nigeria from exporting beans and other products to Europe, the country has not yet proved its ability.
The director stressed that the seminar was organized to work out ways to solve problems related to the export of fruits and vegetables in the country.
In his presentation, COLEACP agribusiness development specialist Dr. Andrew Graffham noted that Nigeria is a country with a lot of resources, a huge population and a lot of farmers who must ensure food security for the population.
Nigeria's Agriculture Quarantine Service (NAQS) is the regulatory agency under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
It was established to harmonize plants and other products from Agrica in order to promote and regulate sanitary and phytosanitary measures in relation to the import and export of agricultural products.
