Katsina Commences Digital Tracking Of Cattle To Curb Rustling

The Katsina state government at the weekend launched a digital tracking of animals in a move to check cattle rustling.

The scheme entails inserting digital microchip implant into the skin of the cow to enable its owner to track its movement from his mobile phone.

Speaking at the flag-off of the scheme in Runka town, Safana local government, Governor Aminu Masari said this new initiative would go a long way in checking theft and safeguarding wealth.

As a take-off, Masari said the administration would sponsor the micro-chipping of 6,800 cows across the 34 local government areas and called on all to key into the new initiative.

In his remark, the secretary to state government and chairman of the state committee on amnesty, Mustapha Inuwa, said the state government would organise sensitization programs for pastoralists to enlighten them on the new technology.
