The Chief Executive Officer of Spectra Industries Limited, Duro Kuteyi, has stressed the need for Nigerians to regularly consume food products made from sorghum and soyabeans such as Hyfiba Sorghum-Soy meal to boost their immune system and wade off coronavirus infections and other health related issues.
He made the call when the company donated a truck load of the product to the Lagos state government as part of its efforts to support the state government to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic among people in the state.
Kuteyi said that the product, Hyfiba Sorghum-Soy is one of the highly sought food products in the state which is capable of helping to control diabetics, improve digestive health, among other health benefits.
“The product is made from sorghum and soyabean. Sorghum has many health benefits. It is a non-wheat grain that offers a dietary option to people with celiac disease may help control diabetes, improve digestive health, among other benefits.
“According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, sorghum is a powerhouse of nutrients. When included in the diet, it can provide nearly half of the daily required protein, a significant amount of dietary fiber, and B-vitamins vitamins like niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin, as well as high levels of magnesium, iron, copper, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium,” he said.
Speaking on its digestive health potential, Kuteyi said Sorghum is one of the best foods for dietary fiber, adding that a cup of its grains contains almost 13 grams of dietary fiber, meaning that your digestive tract keeps food moving along smoothly, preventing cramping, bloating, constipation, stomach aches, excess gas, and diarrhea.
“Sorghum has anticancer potential, has complex carbohydrates to manage diabetes, has gluten-free grain option, improves bone health, increases circulation, and contains energy boosting nutrients,” he said.
Remi Kuteyi, Executive Director of the company, while presenting the products to the State’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Gbolahan Lawal, at the Lagos State Government Warehouse, 21st Century Warehouse, in Ikeja, said the gesture was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), considering the efforts the state has made so far to assist vulnerable people.
“The state government has been helping the vulnerable people during the lockdown and we felt that our company, operating in Lagos State should be part of the efforts the state is making.
“A bag of each of product contains 12 packs. Hyfiba Meal is a highly nutritious product made from Sorghum and Soyabean. It can be made like Amala or Tuwo as swallow,” she said.
