BENIN CITY – The more than 3,000 beneficiaries of the federal government's Social Investment Program (SIP) have been trained in digital skills in order to expand their skill set and equip them with knowledge to take advantage of opportunities in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.

Speaking to reporters in Benin City, the coordinator, the Edo State Social Investment Program, Miss Osayuvamen Aladeselu, said that the training is in line with the goal of the program to equip the N-Power beneficiaries with entrepreneurial skills.

She added that the training is being conducted in partnership with Google Digital Skills for Africa and is intended to help participants gain skills to explore opportunities in the digital economy.

“Our attention today is focused on seven local government districts in the Senate district of Edo-South. We have about 3000 participants here. Edo Central and North Senatorial Districts will take their turns as we aim to train all 10,000 beneficiaries of N-government in Edo state, ”she said.

Aladeshelu further said that the program will also provide participants with critical digital literacy skills to become entrepreneurs, so that they can make a significant contribution to national development.

Chunyu Tejiri Jerry, moderator and head of the Google team, urged participants to use skills to grow their business, promote their careers and use the various opportunities available on the Internet to create wealth.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries of the SIP N-Agro program in the Senate zone of Edo-South organized a workshop for farmers in the state to celebrate World Food Day.

Addressing the participants, the program manager of the Edo Agricultural Development Program (Edo-ADP), Mr. Peter Ayhimohobbe, noted that farmers are crucial for the economic development of Nigeria, urging Edo residents to take advantage of the agrarian initiatives of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking on the theme “Strengthening agriculture for economic development: our actions, our future,” he instructed young people to engage in agribusiness, since the future of the state depends on a sustainable growth path in agriculture.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Edo, Comrade B.S. Kadiri, explained that sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved if there is no food.

Kadiri further thanked the state governor for repurposing state agriculture, encouraging farmers to take an interest in acquiring knowledge that would allow them to increase the productivity of their farms.
