Sustainable agro export will boost economy, says NEPC

Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Olusegun Avolovo

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) says that sustainable exports of local products will boost the country's economy.

The Regional Coordinator of the South-South Commission, Ms. Azuka Ikegiofor, who announced this in Port Harcore, Reverse, during a one-day interactive stakeholder forum on “Export of non-commodity products from Nigeria” stressed that the country is a large resource center for raw materials for foreign countries, stressing that the increase in the production of agricultural products and other materials of the productive base will contribute to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

To achieve the goal, Ikejiofor called for more attention to be paid to agriculture through empowering farmers.

According to her: “The way to modernize the economy is to diversify it through the production base. There are so many sectors on the production base, first of all, the development of agriculture.

“The government should focus more on expanding the rights of farmers and farmers, in turn, create cooperatives and involve government services in promoting the proper development of local products so that products receive international recognition.

“When the production base of the economy develops and expands, it will create jobs for unemployed young people, and through it funds will be created that will further improve the living conditions of people and also contribute to national GDP.”

In addition, Ms. Adevole Filomina, Area Coordinator of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), urged participants to apply the required appropriate farming practices to ensure food safety.
