More than 450 members of the Association of All Nigerian Farmers (AFAN) in Kebbi allegedly confiscated their 14,000 hectares of land by the state government of Kebbi in the village of Gvazava district of the local government of Danko / Wasagu state.

The chairman of the association in this area, Alhaji Aliyah Batura, told reporters in Birnina Kebbi on Sunday that farmers will lose a crop in the amount of about 200 million, as their agricultural lands were seized by the government.

"We planted our harvests at 200 million pounds sterling on our farmland, and the state government transferred our agricultural land to the company for the production of cassava. "The destruction of our crops has already begun in the presence of police officers of the heavy police, and no compensation has been provided to us," he said.

According to Baint, most farmers invested the loans they provided from banks for farming in the area.

"Some of us sold our cattle and invested in farms, and some took loans from banks and individuals.

The Chairman called on the state government to act with compassion until they harvested their crops before embarking on the destruction.

Responding to this question, the state commissioner for environment and solid minerals Alhaji Hassan Calgo said that 14,000 hectares of farmers taken from them is a forest reserve owned by the state of the state of Kebbi rather than agricultural land.

"We have about eight forest reserves and 14,000 hectares, which, according to the statement that we confiscated, are one of them.

"During previous administrations, the reserve was provided to a company called Excel Solution Nigeria Limited for the project, and the company failed to comply with the contract agreement and began illegal leasing of land that collects money from farmers and in the area.

"Farmers in this area themselves reported the dubious actions of the company for us, and we transferred this issue to the State House of Assembly, in which the committee was formed from the meeting, went there and proposed a recommendation for the issuance of the company's certificate to be annulled.

"The Governor of Alhaji Atiku Bagudu withdrew the company's certificate on the basis of the Assembly's recommendation," he explained.
